Reception lighting

Atmosphere and functionality through zonal lighting design

People with many different concerns gather in the office reception area. All sorts of activities take place depending on whether it is an office reception, the registration desk at a doctor's practice, or a hotel reception. Lighting also fulfils multiple tasks. It must ensure good visual conditions, aid orientation, and create a bright, friendly atmosphere. Zonal separation is established by planning different light intensities and light distributions. Wide-area lighting for basic illumination helps visitors navigate immediately on entering the office reception area.

Light and a feeling for time

At least 300 lux and a glare reduction value of UGR≤22 is needed above the counter or at the reception desk. This ensures staff have sufficient visibility, for example when filling in documents. Separate suspended luminaires deliver the necessary brightness and can be switched on or off as needed. Harmonious lighting at the reception area helps make visitors' waiting time seem shorter. Free-standing or wall luminaires with indirect warm light colours create spatial comfort, thus promoting relaxation even at the reception desk. An additional dynamic light control that follows the course of daylight ensures a feel-good atmosphere that matches the human biorhythm.
