For more than 35 years, we have been working with architects, designers, and planners to develop unique luminaires at the cutting edge of technology that also deliver compelling style and aesthetics. We always have one goal in mind: to push the boundaries of what is technically possible to create visionary designs. Our success in this endeavour is thanks to the outstanding work of our employees in our design labs, production, and sales locations around the world. Being there for our customers on-site is fundamental to our shared success. Thanks to organisational efficiency and a high level of in-house production depth, we can respond to our customers' unique needs and continuously expand our existing product portfolio. It all began over 35 years ago

Driven by a passion for light, founder Andreas Hierzer laid the first foundation stone for today's group of companies as early as 1989. He asked himself how simple spotlights could be improved and developed new, pioneering solutions. The search for perfection led him to boundaries that had to be crossed. Stagnation was never an option. This passion for light and innovation continues to drive us today: new technologies and brands expand the product portfolio, while our own research and production sites, as well as sales offices, are emerging worldwide.

Founding
Andreas Hierzer lays the foundation for the corporate group xenon lights by developing innovative halogen wire and track systems in a garage. Product modularity plays a significant role.

Internationalisation
After establishing the first international subsidiary in the USA, Germany, Switzerland, and Great Britain follow in quick succession – today XAL operates worldwide with 30 national subsidiaries.

First product series with LED technology
XAL stands for innovation and over 20 years’ experience in LED technology. Before others, we recognise that LEDs shape the future of the lighting industry and, planning ahead, invest in our own electronics manufacturing at the headquarters.

Redesign

The company name and logo change in 2004. Xenon Lights become Xenon Architectural Lighting and eventually XAL.

Expansion of production in Europe
With the establishment of XAL Slovenia and the construction of our own production hall in Murska Sobota, we take an important step towards the greatest possible in-house production depth.

XALcc Opening
The focus remains on technological development: In our XAL Competence Center and certified laboratories, we pool all our expertise in-house – from development to production – and can thus ensure the highest quality.

Wever & Ducré becomes part of the XAL Group
Belgian brand Wever & Ducré’s product range complements XAL Group's with decorative luminaires for the hotel and restaurant industry and for private homes.

Establishment of BCL
The Barcelona Creative Lab is established in Europe’s design capital. A team of international designers and lighting experts develops pioneering product innovations.

UNICO
In close collaboration with XALcc, the team in Barcelona has created a unique product with UNICO in terms of flexibility. The downlight offers the right solution for any requirement.

Wästberg becomes part of the XAL Group
Creating well-being through beautiful light – that is the mission of founder Magnus Wästberg. The luminaires, created by world-renowned designers enrich the group's product portfolio.

xilence becomes part of the XAL Group
The xilence brand offers solutions that harmoniously combine light and acoustics. By combining unique design, task-oriented lighting and efficient sound absorption, we create a pleasant and productive working environment.

Electronic development and production
We develop and produce bespoke hardware and software solutions that turn our luminaires into smart lighting systems. From ideal lighting scenes to dynamic scenarios – we work at the heart of the luminaire to realise your vision.

Mechanical development and production
From profile production, turning, milling, laser engraving to powder coating and final assembly – we handle every step along the value chain. This is how we ensure maximum quality control and implement your visions quickly and efficiently.

Quality assurance
High-quality, durable luminaires are based on the highest quality standards. Extensive quality tests, from prototypes to series products, are our top priority. Tests, starting with suppliers and incoming goods, through LED assembly to the finished luminaire, ensure compliance with the highest quality standards

Our daily motivation is to meet international customer requirements and incorporate personal touches into our product innovations. Thanks to our centralised production and comprehensive in-house testing options, we can implement these solutions quickly and efficiently. Anything is possible – from custom colours and bespoke radii to sensors developed in-house or innovative spotlights.

Planning data
With our planning aids ranging from Revit BIM, pCon, and ABK building data to the image gallery, we offer you a wide array of digital room planning and digitisation tools. These include 3D product configurations, GLDF files, and all relevant technical data for the luminaires.

Planning support
Our lighting experts will support you in planning the lighting for your bespoke lighting solution. We research trends, take them further and develop bespoke concepts at the cutting edge of lighting technology, always tailored to your specific requirements and interior design.

Digital Solutions
Modern luminaires are becoming ever smarter. Integrated sensors let them create optimal light conditions in a room, while adapting dynamically to their environment. From reducing your energy consumption in the long term to creating a healthy working environment or dynamic lighting sequences, we plan and support you in implementing your ideas.

Energy-efficient light
