Pushing Boundaries in Light and Sound Design
Light and music are like two ingredients that come together to create something new and much greater. In our Unique Light Show Challenge, we offer three lighting designers the opportunity to artistically redefine the boundaries of what is technically possible and create a unique light show.
To apply for the Unique Light Show Challenge, you need to fulfill three criteria:
- Work as a professional lighting designer
- Be willing to travel to Graz, Austria
- Tell us in a short video why you would love to participate in the Unique Light Show Challenge
Registration is open until October 13, 2024, 23:59 CET. The three winners will be contacted by email on October 14, 2024, and will receive all further information about the Unique Light Show Challenge.

How does it work?
The Stadthalle Graz will become your stage. With 210 UNICO downlights, you will create the light show you've always dreamed of. A DMX expert will assist you in programming the light show, and for the composition of your bespoke soundtrack, you will collaborate with an internationally renowned producer and DJ. Both the show and the soundtrack will be developed in the autumn through online calls. When you visit Graz, you will experience the entire show live at the Stadthalle for the very first time.
The challenge will be accompanied by a video crew and presented in early 2025 on XAL's social media channels and website. Enchant the audience with your creativity as you shape your unique sound and light show.
City Trip to Graz
Day 1 - December 09, 2024: Arrival, visit to XAL Headquarters in Graz, group dinner
Day 2 - December 10, 2024: Showtime and video shoot
Day 3 - December 11, 2024: Free day in Graz, departure
Included: Travel and accommodation for you and your +1 in a beautiful hotel in the heart of Graz, meals, and the rights to use your light and sound showcase for your own purposes.
