SR House Paros
In harmony with the landscape
Embedded in the landscape of Paros, this underground house blends seamlessly into its unique surroundings and forms a natural continuation of the rocky topography. Situated on a one-hectare plot, it offers expansive views of the Aegean and the wild surrounding landscape. It conveys a sense of seclusion and deep connection with nature, while remaining close to the beach.
Reduced to the essentials
| Studio Riebenbauer’s design focuses on simplicity and natural materials. Clean lines and open spaces create a calm, understated aesthetic, while the earth-sheltered construction provides protection from the elements and keeps the ecological footprint low. |
Between retreat and openness
| The house is both a retreat and a vantage point: Its terraces open up sweeping views of the sea and the surrounding landscape. At the same time, it is carefully attuned to the island’s topography. It invites quiet contemplation and immersion in nature, offering a peaceful setting to enjoy the beauty of Paros undisturbed. |
Invisible. Tangible.
The greatest challenge was to create a lighting solution that would generate an atmospheric spatial effect without drawing attention to itself. With SPIO recessed downlights, which are integrated almost invisibly and blend into the ceiling, the architecture remains untouched while the light makes its full impact.
Atmospheric
The question was always what could still be reduced or omitted while still achieving perfect, atmospheric lighting at the table and in the kitchen, where you don’t want to sit or cook in your own shadow. The additional SASSO spotlights meet the lighting design requirements perfectly. Like the SPIO spotlights, they can be pivoted and rotated, allowing the light to be directed precisely where it is needed.
Slow Living in its purest form
SR House Paros is more than a house: it is a place of tranquillity, restraint and conscious simplicity. The architecture recedes, allowing nature, light and landscape to take centre stage. A way of life emerges here that recalls the original Paros: quiet, unspoilt and unhurried.
“The rooms feel exactly as we had hoped. The power of tranquillity, nature and a lighting effect that can be felt but barely seen. Slow Living at its best.”
